SUMMARY:Frugal Backpacker Hiking Club: Advanced Map + Compass at Linville Gorge
DESCRIPTION:Learn to take bearings and read the trail with a map and compass while hiking one of the most fascinating outdoor spaces in the region. Recognizable peaks and landmarks will be used for location via triangulation. It’s roughly a three mile round-trip with a few hundred feet of elevation gain along the trail. While the bearing of the trail stays relatively Northbound\, a large number of recognizable peaks surrounding the trail will allow for easier location. This is a free class\, but RSVP is required. \nRSVP REQUIRED \nWe will meet at Frugal Backpacker and carpool to Balsam Gap\, about 30 minutes away. \nRequirements:\n \n\nParticipants need a compass and a map of the Linville Gorge/Mount Mitchell area\, specifically around the Craggy Gardens/Balsam Gap area\, which can be purchased at Frugal Backpacker for 20% off for those taking the class.\nWater and snacks or a bag lunch.\nRSVP required.\n\nRSVP REQUIRED \n
